LPG against mains gas, honestly
The difference is the fuel and where it is kept: LPG is stored in a tank or cylinders at the property rather than piped in. Day to day the boiler and the controls behave the same, and a modern LPG boiler heats a house as well as a mains gas one. The practical differences are that you are buying fuel in deliveries rather than on a meter, and that fewer engineers are qualified to touch it.
If you have mains gas available, mains gas is the simpler answer and we will tell you so.
The qualification, and why it is the thing to check
Gas Safe registration is not one blanket permission — it covers specific appliance and fuel categories, and LPG is its own. An engineer registered for natural gas is not automatically registered for LPG. Registration 961480 covers it, and you can check that yourself on the Gas Safe Register rather than take our word for it. That is worth doing for any engineer and any gas work.
