Powerflushing central heating in Motherwell.
A powerflush is a deep clean of a central heating system. We circulate high-velocity water and cleaning chemicals through the radiators, pipework and heat exchanger to shift the sludge and rust that restrict flow, then flush the system clean and add an inhibitor to slow it coming back. Carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, registration 961480.
Powerflush — from £450, VAT inclusive.

| Cold spots, slow warm-up, noisy radiators and pump strain caused by sludge rather than by a boiler fault | |
| Most domestic systems take the better part of a day; longer if the system is large or heavily blocked | |
| A clean system treated with a corrosion inhibitor | |
| Fitting a new boiler, extending a system, or replacing radiators — many manufacturers require a clean system for the guarantee to stand | |

Signs a system needs flushing
- Radiators with cold spots, especially along the bottom.
- Radiators or the boiler making noise — banging or kettling.
- The heating taking noticeably longer to warm the house than it used to.
- Dark or discoloured water when you bleed a radiator.
- Repeated pump failures or boiler lockouts with no other explanation.
- Some rooms never getting properly warm while others are fine.
Left alone, that sludge costs you money twice: the system works harder for less heat, and the boiler wears out sooner for it.
How the flush is done
A pump is connected to the system and pushes water through it at high velocity, with the flow reversed at intervals to lift deposits rather than pack them tighter. Cleaning chemicals break down the sludge and scale; a magnetic filter catches what comes loose. Once the water runs clear the system is refilled and dosed with an inhibitor.
When we will tell you not to bother
Powerflushing is the service this trade is most often accused of selling to people who do not need it, so we would rather be plain about it: we only recommend a flush when there is a reason to. One cold radiator is more often a balancing problem or a stuck valve, and both are cheaper. If that is what we find, that is what we will tell you.
Common questions
What is a powerflush?
A deep clean of the central heating system: high-velocity water and cleaning chemicals circulated through radiators, pipework and the heat exchanger, then flushed clean and treated with an inhibitor.
How do I know if my heating needs a powerflush?
The usual signs are radiators cold at the bottom, noisy radiators or boiler, slow warm-up, discoloured water when bleeding, and repeated pump or boiler faults.
How long does a powerflush take?
Most domestic systems take the better part of a day. A larger or heavily blocked system can take longer, and we will say so before starting rather than halfway through.
Do I need a powerflush before a new boiler?
Sometimes. Many manufacturers require a clean system for the guarantee to stand, which is worth knowing before the boiler goes in rather than after. We tell you at the quote — see boiler installation.
Is a chemical flush the same thing?
No. A chemical flush cleans without the high-velocity pump and is gentler and cheaper, but it shifts less. On a lightly affected system it can be enough, and where it is, we will say so.
How do I book a powerflush?
Send the enquiry form with the job type set to powerflush, or message us on WhatsApp. Every enquiry gets a reply the same working day. We look at the system before quoting, because the price depends on its size and how badly it is blocked, and the quote then holds for 30 days.

Tell us about the job.
Tell us what you need and we will come back the same working day, in writing, with a fixed price. No deposit, and the quote stands for 30 days.
