Prices and quotes
The prices published on this site are starting prices, not quotes. They are what a straightforward job of that kind starts at.
The quote comes after we have seen the job, and it does not move afterwards. If we quote you a number, that is the number — unless you ask us to do something different, or we find something behind a wall that nobody could have known was there, in which case we stop and talk to you before doing anything that changes the price.
A quote is open for 30 days.
Booking, and changing your mind
Work is booked in when you accept the quote. We do not ask for a deposit.
If you agree to work in your home, or anywhere other than at our premises, consumer law gives you 14 days to change your mind. You do not have to give a reason. Tell us by any clear means — a phone call, a text, an e-mail — and that is enough.
The 14 days start on the day you accept the quote — or, if we are supplying equipment such as a boiler, on the day that equipment reaches your property, whichever is later.
If you want us to start inside those 14 days, we will ask you to say so in writing, because the law requires that request to be made rather than assumed. What follows depends on the kind of job:
- Work only — a service, a gas safety check, a repair. If you cancel after we have started, you pay for the work already done, in proportion to the whole job. If we have completely finished the job before your 14 days are up, the right to cancel ends at that point, and we will have told you so before you asked us to start.
- Jobs where we supply equipment — a new boiler, for example. The right to cancel does not end when the work is finished. If you cancel, you pay for the work already done in proportion, you pay the direct cost of us collecting the equipment, and we may charge for any drop in its value from having been fitted and used.
We give you this in writing with your quote, so you have it before you agree to anything, rather than only here on a page you may never read.
If you need to move an appointment, ring us. We will do the same for you if something urgent comes in — a house with no heat comes first, and one day that may be yours.
Guarantees
New boilers carry a manufacturer-backed warranty of up to 12 years on selected gas boilers. Which boiler, and how long, is confirmed in the quote — “up to” and “selected” are part of the fact, not sales language, and we will tell you plainly which applies to yours.
Warranties usually depend on the boiler being serviced annually. We will say so at the time rather than let you find out when you claim.
Our own workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months from the date the work is completed. That is our guarantee, given by us, and it is separate from anything the manufacturer gives you.
It covers:
- Defects arising directly from our workmanship.
- Incorrect installation or fitting.
- Leaks or faults caused by our installation, where applicable.
- Putting defective workmanship right, at no additional labour charge.
It does not cover:
- Defects in an appliance, a component or anything else from its manufacturer.
- Parts you have supplied yourself.
- Normal wear and tear.
- Damage caused by you or by another contractor.
- Tampering, or alterations nobody asked us about.
- Faults that were already there and were not part of the work we did.
- Problems caused by the system not being maintained.
- Blockages or faults that come from the wider system rather than from our work.
- Consequential losses — that is, knock-on costs rather than the fault itself.
Appliances, components and parts may carry their own manufacturer’s warranty. That is a separate thing from this guarantee, it is given by the manufacturer rather than by us, and it may run for longer or shorter than 12 months. We will tell you which applies to yours.
None of this affects your legal rights. Work has to be done with reasonable care and skill, and if it is not, the law is on your side whatever this page says.
What we need from you
- Safe access to the property and to the appliance on the day.
- Anything you know about the system — previous faults, work someone else has done, where the stopcock is.
- If you are a landlord, that you are entitled to instruct the work.
If something goes wrong
Ring us first. Most things are sorted with a phone call and a return visit, and we would always rather fix it than argue about it.
If a phone call has not sorted it, put it in writing to info@relightgas.com and we will deal with it from there.
We are responsible for loss we cause. We are not responsible for faults that were already there, for other people’s work, or for things outside anyone’s reasonable control. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit — and with gas work, that matters more than the rest of this page.
This website
We keep the site accurate and up to date, but nothing on it is advice about your particular boiler or your particular house. That comes from seeing it.
What we do with the details you send us is set out in our privacy policy.
The small print
These terms are governed by Scots law, and the Scottish courts may hear any dispute — but if you live elsewhere in the UK you can bring a claim in your own local courts instead. Living elsewhere does not take away the consumer protection you have where you live; those rights travel with you whatever this page says.
